The Gombe State University (GSU) Institute of Education has announced the commencement of its Postgraduate Diploma in Community Health Education (PGDCHE) for the 2025/2026 academic session. This long-anticipated programme was approved under the leadership of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Sani Ahmed Yauta, and is now open for qualified applicants.
The PGDCHE programme at Gombe State University (GSU) provides a strong academic foundation and practical training for professionals in community health. It is specially designed for individuals with a Higher Diploma in Community Health Officers (CHO) or a Bachelor’s degree in health-related disciplines who wish to enhance their qualifications.
Programme Duration and Focus
The PGDCHE is a one-year programme, structured into two semesters, offering comprehensive training that combines health education, community practice, and teaching skills. It prepares participants to contribute meaningfully to public health development and community well-being.
Programme Approval and Uniqueness
The Institute of Education at Gombe State University (GSU) runs this programme with full accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Community Health Practitioners Registration Board of Nigeria (CHPRBN).
Notably, GSU is the only approved university in the North-East region offering this specific postgraduate diploma. Graduates of this programme gain not only advanced professional competence in community health practice but also the pedagogical skills required to teach in training schools and health institutions.

Admission Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Possess SSCE or GCE with at least five credits in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Physics, and Chemistry, obtained in not more than two sittings.
- Hold a Higher Diploma in Community Health Officers (CHO) with at least one year of post-qualification experience, or a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant health field.
- Be registered and licensed by the Community Health Practitioners Registration Board of Nigeria (CHPRBN).

Prospective candidates should pay a non-refundable fee of ₦10,000.00 into the Institute’s official account and complete the application form via the Institute of Education portal.

Lecture Schedule
Lectures for the PGDCHE will take place on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, providing flexibility for working professionals who wish to advance their academic qualifications.
