NCDMB Essay Competition 2025 for Undergraduates
The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board has announced its 2025 undergraduate essay competition. Entries are open from 1 to 31 August for 100–200 level students in Nigerian universities and polytechnics. Winners will receive cash awards, laptops, and recognition at the prize ceremony.
A Contest That Carries More Than Prizes
Every year, the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board sets the stage for young undergraduates to prove their pen is sharp enough to shape conversations. Now in its 8th edition, the essay contest has grown into something students look forward to. For some, it is about the money, no doubt. For others, it is the chance to have their name printed in a magazine that goes far beyond campus walls.
The topic for 2025 is one that carries weight: “Sustaining Local Content Policies in The Transforming Oil And Gas Industry.” That alone tells you the focus is serious, it is not just about writing fancy lines.
Who Can Step Forward
Not every student qualifies. The Board has set the gateposts clearly.
- Only those in 100 to 200 level in Nigerian universities and polytechnics.
- Students must show proof, either an admission letter or a signed note from their Head of Department.
- Essays must be fresh, written for this contest only.
- No group work, no double entries. Just one essay, one writer.
What’s At Stake

- First Prize: ₦1,000,000, a brand-new laptop, and the essay published in Local Content Digest.
- Second Prize: ₦700,000 and a laptop.

- Word limit: 1,500 words.
- Format: Online only, no hard copies.
- Do not include personal contact information inside the essay.
- Submissions by email will not be accepted.
- Late entries? They go straight to the bin.
How Essays Will Be Judged
The Board is looking for:
- Clear writing, with correct spelling and grammar.
- Original thought, not recycled material.
- Depth, showing understanding of the oil and gas industry.
- Relevance to the chosen topic.
- Full respect of contest rules.
A Date To Mark For Winners
The award ceremony is set for 26 September 2025, at the NCDMB headquarters in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. That is where names will be called, prizes handed out, and maybe, lives shifted a little.
A Closing Thought That Circles Back
Essay competitions may sound like another school task, but this one carries pride, cash, and opportunity. For many undergraduates, it is proof that their ideas matter. For some, it could even be the stepping stone to bigger things. And as Nigerians like to say, if you get chance, no dull am.
