UNICAL Cancels 2025 Post-UTME Test, Adopts O’level Screening

The University of Calabar has dropped a big one. For the 2025/2026 academic session, there will be no Post-UTME aptitude test. That yearly ritual, where thousands troop in for exams, is now off the table.
Instead, the school has decided to judge candidates with their O’level results through what they call the Point Tally System. A new path, less stress maybe, but it comes with its own air of suspense.
What the school said
The Registrar, Dr Mrs Chukwuka Icha, signed the official statement. It made it clear:
- The Post-UTME registration portal has been shut down.
- Screening will no longer involve sitting for an exam.
- Candidates will be judged with their O’level grades through a tally point system.
The words were short, almost blunt, but firm. No turning back.
Why the move
One reason stands tall. Many students had been worrying about the stress of travelling to Calabar just to write a test. Transport costs, long roads, even safety, were part of the grumbles. The school listened and cut the whole exercise.
Some may sigh in relief, others may feel a bit cheated of a chance to prove themselves face-to-face. That’s life though, always two sides of the coin.
What this means for candidates
- If you already registered for Post-UTME, forget the test, it’s gone.
- Your O’level result will now speak for you.
- The tally system will decide your fate, not a computer-based exam.
It’s almost like switching the referee in a match. Same game, but the rules of judging have changed.
