2016 Carnegie Council Student/Teacher Essay on Ethical Challenges for All Students and Teachers

Carnegie Council Student/Teacher Essay Contest

Founded by Andrew Carnegie in 1914, the Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs is an independent, educational, nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to increasing the understanding of the relationship between ethics and international affairs. It produces lectures, publications, and multimedia materials on the ethical challenges of living in a globalized world.                                                                                                                                                            The Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs announces its eighth annual International Essay Contest, open to teachers and students around the world. As part of Carnegie Council’s Ethics for a Connected World project, thought leaders are asked to answer a series of questions about the greatest ethical challenges facing the planet. This year, 2016, students and teachers are asked to write on the topic, “Is nationalism an asset or hindrance in today’s globalized world?”.

Eligibility

  • This competition is open to all students and teachers around the world
  • Non-students are automatically disqualified
  • Previous winners and honorable mentions are not eligible

Collaborative essays between teachers and students are welcome

Essay Topic For 2016

Is nationalism an asset or hindrance in today’s globalized world?

Nationalism as regards this essay, is a broad term and can be seen in terms of patriotism, economic nationalism, national identity that holds a diverse country together, nativism, a movement that ideologically separates a nation from a supranational organization, or any other logical way you think fit, as long as you define it clearly.

  1. Your full name
  2. The name of your school
  • Indicate whether you are a teacher or a student and at what level i.e high school, undergraduate or graduate
