UNIBEN Reschedules Matriculation & Orientation 2025/2026
The University of Benin, often called UNIBEN, has shared a small change to the 2025/2026 academic calendar. The update affects the matriculation and orientation programmes for newly admitted students.
The notice was released in a circular signed by the Registrar, Mr Ademola A. Bobola, on Monday, 15 December 2025. The university confirmed that the academic session began as planned on 10 November 2025. Even so, many new students have not yet finished their clearance steps.
University leaders explained that the change allows these students more time to complete required checks. The festive season, which limits office work late in the year, also influenced the decision. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Edoba B. Omoregie, SAN, approved the adjustment on behalf of the Senate.
Revised dates for the programmes are listed below:
- Orientation Programme: Monday, 26 January 2026
- Matriculation Ceremony: Wednesday, 28 January 2026
These events were earlier fixed for 17 and 19 December 2025. The university has asked deans, directors, staff, students, parents, guardians and other parties to note the new schedule and act on it.
Teaching and other academic work across departments are set to continue as planned, with lectures running according to the approved timetable.
