FG Restructures Leadership in Federal Universities

Federal Government has approved a restructuring of governing councils and leadership across federal universities in Nigeria.

This decision involves the dissolution, reassignment, and appointment of key officials in various institutions.

University of Abuja (Now Yakubu Gowon University)

  • Governing Council dissolved, both external and internal.
  • Senator Lanre Tejuoso appointed as Pro-Chancellor, moving from his role at University of Agriculture, Makurdi.
  • Prof. Lar Patricia Manko appointed as Acting Vice-Chancellor for six months, with no eligibility for the substantive position.
  • Prof. Maikudi removed as Vice-Chancellor.

University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN)

  • Engr. Akin Ojo reassigned as Pro-Chancellor of UNN, moving from Federal University of Lokoja.
  • Gen. Ike Nwachukwu reassigned from UNN to University of Uyo as Pro-Chancellor.
  • Prof. Oguejiofu T. Ujam appointed as Acting Vice-Chancellor for six months, not eligible for the permanent role.
  • Tenure of current Acting Vice-Chancellor, ending 14th February 2025, will not be renewed.

Other Appointments

  • Alvan Ikoku University of Education – Senator Sani Stores appointed as Pro-Chancellor.
  • Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka – Barrister Olugbenga Kukoyi appointed as Pro-Chancellor.
  • Federal University of Lokoja – Prof. Zubairu Tajo Abdullahi appointed as Pro-Chancellor.
