UNILORIN Postgraduate Admission Form

Applications are open for Ph.D. programmes at the University of Ilorin for the 2024/2025 rain semester. Candidates are encouraged to follow the guidelines carefully to avoid errors during the application process.

  • Only Ph.D. programmes are available for the rain semester session.
  • Applicants must select only the courses listed in this advertisement.
  • Application Advice
    • Print and study the advertisement carefully before starting the application.
    • The university will not be responsible for mistakes due to incorrect applications.
  • Postgraduate Academic Session
    • Postgraduate programmes last 12 months, starting 2nd October and ending 8th August.
    • The rain semester session starts on 2nd April.
    • Programmes expire when the maximum duration ends, but extensions of up to 6 months may be allowed twice.

Postgraduate Programmes Offered, Duration & Requirements

Ph.D. Degree Programmes

  • Open to holders of M.A., M.Ed., M.Eng., M.Sc., LL.M., or MPH degrees.
  • Minimum requirement: 60% score or 4.0 CGPA on a 5-point scale in Master’s programmes.

Duration

  • Full-time: 36 to 60 months.
  • Part-time: 48 to 72 months.

Requirements

  • Candidates must complete prescribed courses and submit a thesis.

Eligibility

  1. Applicants must meet all entry requirements when purchasing the form.
    • NYSC Discharge/Exemption Certificates must be dated before 30th March 2025.
  2. Submit the application online with scanned copies of credentials.
  3. After online submission, send the following documents to:
    • The Secretary, Postgraduate School, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria.
    • Submission dates: 13th to 17th January 2025.
    • Include a hard copy of the application form and all supporting documents.
  4. Transcripts of academic records must be sent to the Head of Department.
    • The university will not be responsible for misplaced transcripts.
  5. Applicants must have 5 O-Level credits, including English and Mathematics.
    • O-Level results obtained before 2015 may include a pass in English or Mathematics, depending on the programme.
  6. Ph.D. applicants must hold a relevant Master’s degree with a minimum of 60% or 4.0 CGPA.
    • Shortlisted candidates will undergo interviews and assessments.
  7. Applicants with degrees from non-English universities must provide proof of English proficiency (e.g., TOEFL or IELTS).
  8. International applicants must submit a 5-page research proposal to pgschool@unilorin.edu.ng by 7th February 2025.
  9. Full-time applicants must present a letter of release from their employer at registration.

The application fee is ₦25,000 for Nigerian applicants and $200 for international applicants.

Application Process

  1. Complete the online form at University of Ilorin Postgraduate Portal.
  2. Submit scanned copies of credentials online.
  3. Send supporting documents, including academic transcripts, to the Head of Department of the intended programme.

Hard copies of the application form and other documents must be forwarded to the Postgraduate School between 13 January and 17 January 2025.

Deadlines and Notifications

  • Applications close on 31 January 2025.
  • Supporting documents must be submitted by 17 January 2025.
  • Successful applicants will be notified through the university portal.
