The 2026/2027 African Liberty Writing Fellowship is open for applications. African Liberty says the fellowship is a 12-month programme created to identify, train and amplify emerging African writers who care about the ideas of freedom, individual rights and limited government.
Applications opened on 1 March 2026 and will close on 30 April 2026.
What the fellowship offers
Selected participants will take part in a structured, year-long writing development programme from July 2026 to July 2027.
Through the fellowship, participants will:
- work closely with experienced editors
- receive a monthly stipend as top contributors
- gain opportunities for television and radio features
- get published in leading African newspapers
That mix gives the fellowship a clear shape; training, writing support, and public exposure sit at the centre of it.
