List of universities approved for LL.B admission in Nigeria

The Council of Legal Education has released the official list of universities approved to admit students into the Bachelor of Laws, LL.B, programme in Nigeria.

The Council says only universities accredited by it are authorised to admit students into the LL.B programme. That point is plain; it matters for any Student, parent, guardian, or school adviser checking a law admission.

The notice also states that any university admitting students into a Law programme without the Council’s approval is acting against the rules that govern legal education in Nigeria and may face sanctions under existing regulations and policy.

There is another part that stands out. Students admitted into Law programmes in universities that do not have approval from the Council of Legal Education will not be eligible for admission into the Nigerian Law School.

What the Council’s notice means

For the public, the message is simple:

  • only Council-approved universities can admit students into the LL.B programme in Nigeria
  • any school running a Law programme without that approval is acting outside the rules
  • students admitted into unapproved Law programmes will not be eligible for the Nigerian Law School

The Council adds that it will keep updating the list in line with its statutory mandate to regulate legal education in Nigeria.
