The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that it will halt admissions for Law programmes in eight universities for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). This decision directly affects candidates hoping to study Law at these institutions in the upcoming academic session.
The suspension is a result of the Council of Legal Education (CLE) discontinuing Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programmes at these universities for the 2025/2026 academic year, according to JAMB.
This information was made public on Wednesday in Abuja by Dr Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Public Communications Advisor.
Dr Benjamin revealed that the following universities are impacted by the suspension:
The statement, titled “Suspension of Law Programmes at Selected Universities,” cautioned that no candidate applying for Law will receive admission approval at these institutions for the 2025/2026 academic session.
Furthermore, JAMB clarified that the suspension of the Law programme at the Nigerian Police Academy will extend for two academic sessions, specifically for 2025/2026 and 2026/2027.
"As part of this directive, JAMB will not approve admissions for Law programmes at the affected universities in the 2025/2026 session. Additionally, the ban on Law admissions at the Nigerian Police Academy will continue through the 2026/2027 academic year," the statement read.
This suspension has significant implications for prospective Law students. Candidates are advised to explore alternative universities or degree programmes as JAMB enforces these restrictions in compliance with the directives of the Council of Legal Education.
