Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) has expressed disappointment over the alleged violation of its standing policy prohibiting all forms of sign-out activities within and outside the university.

The university's stance was made clear in a memorandum issued by the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs. The memorandum, dated August 6, 2026, was signed by the Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Innocent C. Ngangah.

According to the memorandum, despite previous warnings, some students reportedly organized and participated in sign-out activities at various locations, including Otoko/Awkuzu, Awka, and in Uli on August 4 and 5, 2026. The affected departments include:

• Economics
• Political Science
• Criminology
• English
• Microbiology
• Mechanical Engineering
• Sociology

COOU described the action as gross misconduct and a clear act of disobedience to constituted authority, noting that it contravenes the university's rules and regulations. The institution warned that students, departmental executives, and any other persons found to have participated in or facilitated the activities would be subjected to disciplinary measures in line with its regulations.

The disciplinary measures listed in the memorandum include:

• Appearance before the Students' Disciplinary Committee
• Suspension from the university
• Withholding of examination results and/or clearance
• Any other sanctions that may be determined by the University Senate

The university further warned all students to desist from participating in any form of sign-out activity, emphasizing that it would enforce the full weight of its regulations against individuals or groups found violating the policy. The reminder aligns with the institution's previously announced prohibition of sign-out ceremonies and related activities.
