FUOYE Appoints Prof. Joshua Ogunwole As New Vice-Chancellor

Nov, 07Views: 448
The Governing Council of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has announced the appointment of Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, a renowned soil ecosystem expert, as the institution’s new Vice-Chancellor.
Professor Ogunwole, who currently serves as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Strategic Partnerships, Research, Innovation, and Linkages), will officially assume office in February 2026, succeeding Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina as the fifth substantive Vice-Chancellor of the university.
According to a statement issued by the University’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Foluso Ogunmodede, the appointment was ratified during a meeting of the Governing Council held on Thursday, November 6, 2025, under the chairmanship of the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, SAN.
“Today, Thursday, November 6, 2025, brings to an end a very long and rigorous process of selecting a new Vice-Chancellor for FUOYE,” the statement read.
The selection process, which began in August with a nationwide advertisement for the position, was described as competitive and transparent.
Addressing the Council, Senator Ndoma-Egba urged all stakeholders to embrace unity and cooperation following the appointment. He cautioned against the rancour and divisions that had surrounded the selection process, advising all applicants and members of the university community to rally around the new Vice-Chancellor to move FUOYE forward.
He commended the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, for his exemplary leadership and remarkable infrastructural achievements during his tenure.
“You are leaving office with confidence and your head held high. You have performed creditably well and surpassed your predecessors in infrastructure development,” Ndoma-Egba said.
The Pro-Chancellor also expressed appreciation to members of the Governing Council for their diligence, commitment, and cooperation throughout the selection process.
He thereafter formally presented the letter of appointment to Professor Ogunwole, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the university’s leadership.
