The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has commenced the accreditation of examination centres for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), with a total of 848 Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres slated for assessment across the country. The nationwide exercise began on Monday, December 15, 2025.
The development was disclosed in JAMB’s Weekly Bulletin released on Monday by the Registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, during a virtual meeting with key stakeholders, including Chief External Examiners (CEEs), Chief Technical Advisors (CTAs), Zonal Directors, State Coordinators, officials of the Computer Professionals Association of Nigeria (CPAN), Zonal IT Officers (ZITOs), State IT Officers (SITOs), Professional IT Officers (PITOs), and other relevant partners.
Professor Oloyede charged members of the accreditation teams to carry out their duties with utmost diligence, focus, and integrity, stressing that the outcome of the exercise has far-reaching implications for the credibility of the examination process. He described the exercise as a national assignment and warned against accrediting any centre that falls short of the Board’s prescribed standards.
The Registrar also urged officials to remain security-conscious throughout the exercise, advising them to avoid unnecessary risks and movements that could expose them to danger. He assured stakeholders that adequate security measures had been put in place to ensure a smooth and safe accreditation process.
Speaking further, JAMB’s IT Consultant, Mr Damilola Bamiro, explained that the accreditation is limited to centres that have successfully completed the mandatory automated test designed to assess system readiness. According to him, only centres that pass this preliminary test would proceed to physical inspection.
Mr Bamiro noted that special attention would be given to the installation and configuration of Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) systems. He stated that the systems must be hard-wired, be of the HIKVision brand, operate on the recommended 16 channels, and have all network switches connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS).
With the accreditation exercise underway, the registration for the 2026 UTME is expected to commence soon. Prospective candidates are therefore advised to begin early preparation using the JAMB CBT software and the JAMB CBT app. Individuals and organisations interested in establishing JAMB CBT training centres or reselling the JAMB CBT training software are also encouraged to take advantage of the JAMB CBT Agent/Reseller programme.
Bottom line: the bar is high, the rules are clear, and only centres that meet JAMB’s standards will make the cut.
