Following an Emergency Congress Meeting of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) – Plateau State University Branch, the Zone and the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Union convened on 15 September 2026 in Jos. During this congress, members examined the factors that prompted the strike declared on 26 August 2026 and decided to halt the industrial action.
The decision to suspend the strike came after the negotiation teams representing the State Government and the Union reached an accord.
The government delegation was led by Head of Service Mr. Steven Pam Gadong, while the union side was headed by Zonal Coordinator Professor Aku Timothy Namo.
The talks were held in the Head of Service’s conference hall, where both parties arrived at a mutually acceptable resolution concerning the six‑point charter of demands, which are:
After reviewing the agreement, the Congress resolved that the strike would be suspended effective midnight (12:00 am) on 16 September 2026. Consequently, union members have been instructed to resume all academic duties.
The Union expressed gratitude to the public for their patience and support during the industrial dispute.
