The Vice‑Chancellor, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, announced that the National Universities Commission has given the green light to sixteen academic programmes after the commission completed its resource verification exercise.
The announcement was made on Thursday, 24 September 2026, during the university’s 35th Inaugural Lecture held at the ETF Auditorium, where the Vice‑Chancellor addressed the audience virtually.
Earlier in the month, a NUC inspection team visited the campus to examine the infrastructure, facilities and other resources needed to launch the sixteen programmes. This verification was a key requirement for securing programme approval and later admitting students.
Prof. Omenugha confirmed that the NUC has now formally approved all sixteen programmes, clearing the way for the university to start the admission process.
The Vice‑Chancellor’s trip to Abuja, which fell on the same day as the Inaugural Lecture, was tied to finalising the approval procedures, explaining her physical absence from the event.
She assured that COOU will, without undue delay, begin admitting students into the newly approved programmes.
The approval adds a significant new dimension to COOU’s academic offerings, giving prospective students more pathways to pursue their chosen fields of study.
Congratulations to the university community on this milestone, and to the students who will become the first cohort of these newly approved programmes.
