JAMB Set To Issue Customised SIM Cards To UTME Candidates

Jul, 02Views: 1192

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released its latest bulletin, featuring a significant announcement about the introduction of JAMB customized SIM cards. Developed in collaboration with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), this initiative aims to streamline the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration process. This measure is expected to address the issue of lost lines, which many candidates face when accessing their results for the 2024 UTME.

Key Points About JAMB Customized SIM Cards:

  • These SIM cards will be available only to the parents/guardians of candidates.
  • They will have a validity period of five years.
  • The customized SIM cards will be available starting from the 2025 UTME registration cycle.

Benefits of JAMB Customized SIM Cards:

  • Enhanced Security: Each SIM card will be uniquely linked to the candidate, reducing the risk of registration fraud.
  • Simplified Registration: The registration process will be more straightforward and user-friendly for candidates.
  • Longevity: With a five-year validity period, candidates can use the same SIM card for multiple registration cycles if needed.

Extension of Student Loan Applications:

The JAMB bulletin also includes an announcement from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) about extending the student loan application process:

  • The extension applies to state-owned institutions.
  • An additional 14 days have been added to the deadline.
  • This extension is due to incomplete data submissions.
  • Approximately 1.2 million students are expected to benefit.
  • A total of N3 billion has been allocated for disbursement.

Promotion of STEAM Education:

JAMB is collaborating with key educational bodies to promote STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education:

  • Partners include the Nigerian Academy of Science and the Nigerian Academy of Letters.
  • The initiative will feature workshops and mentorship programs.
  • It will target students and teachers in Adamawa State.

Final Thoughts on JAMB Customized SIMs and More:

The latest JAMB bulletin highlights several significant updates. The introduction of customized SIM cards marks a major step toward improving UTME registration. Other important updates include the extension of student loan applications, commendation from the National Assembly, efforts to address illegal admissions, and initiatives to promote STEAM education.
