JAMB Suspension Won’t Affect Current Students

Please Note: Nigerian tertiary institutions don’t make use of any outside agent and will not make use of any in the 2024/2025 admission exercise. Aspirants are thereby advised to stay clear from such in processing their applications. Applications should be processed directly, following each guideline and instructions issued by the institution

The management of Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, has clarified that the recent one-year suspension on admissions to its law programme does not impact students currently enrolled in the Faculty of Law.

This statement was made on Thursday by Dr. Saeedat Aliyu, KWASU's Acting Director of University Relations, in Ilorin.

Reason Behind the Admission Suspension

Dr. Aliyu explained that the Council for Legal Education (CLE) imposed the ban because KWASU had launched its law programme in 2018 with approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) but without CLE authorization at the time.

Despite this, Dr. Aliyu assured that KWASU has now secured full accreditation from both the NUC and the CLE to offer two undergraduate law programmes:

  1. Common Law
  2. Common and Islamic Law

Impact on Current Law Students

"Management wishes to state that the one-year ban does not in any way affect students currently running their programs in the University’s Faculty of Law," Dr. Aliyu emphasized.

She added that KWASU respects all regulatory authorities and will comply fully with the CLE's directive by not admitting new law students in the 2025/2026 academic session.

Alternative Options for Prospective Candidates

Dr. Aliyu encouraged prospective law candidates to consider applying for other accredited programmes offered by the university. "All programs at KWASU have the required accreditations," she stated.

JAMB's Announcement Regarding Law Admissions

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) announced on Wednesday that it would not conduct admissions for the law programme at KWASU and seven other universities for the 2025/2026 academic session.

This decision follows the CLE's suspension of the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programmes at these institutions. Consequently, JAMB confirmed that no admissions would be approved for candidates seeking to enroll in law programmes at the affected universities during the upcoming session.

This clarification from KWASU highlights the institution’s commitment to compliance while ensuring that current students continue their studies without disruption.
