2025 UTME: 1.3 Million Candidates Score Below 200 – JAMB

May, 30Views: 1427

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has revealed that a staggering 1.3 million candidates—representing 70.7% of the total—scored below 200 in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

According to official statistics released by JAMB, only 117,373 candidates (6.08%) scored above 250, while 565,988 candidates (29.3%) scored 200 and above. Notably, just 17,025 candidates (0.88%) crossed the 300-mark threshold out of the 1.9 million who sat for the exam.

JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, disclosed these figures in a statement released on Sunday. He also addressed the outcome of the rescheduled UTME in six states where initial server glitches necessitated a retake of the exam.

Dr. Benjamin clarified that no exceptional scores were recorded during the rescheduled exams, countering claims that some candidates in the affected sessions scored remarkably high.

“Contrary to misinformation being circulated, only a handful of candidates in the cancelled sessions scored up to 217,” he stated. “In fact, 99% of them scored below 200, clearly indicating there were no top scorers in those sessions.”

He condemned what he described as attempts by “opportunistic and mischievous individuals” to discredit the credibility of the Computer-Based Test (CBT) process and the Board itself.

“It is not unexpected, given the circumstances, that some may try to exploit the situation for personal gain,” he said. “However, their misleading narratives are entirely baseless.”

Dr. Benjamin also confirmed that all UTME results have now been released—except for those of candidates found to have committed exam infractions or those scheduled for mop-up tests. He further noted that security investigations have led to the withdrawal of some previously released results due to malpractice.

“Candidates affected by result withdrawal are being individually notified via SMS, their JAMB profiles, and email addresses,” the statement added.

JAMB also clarified that the charges for checking results via shortcodes 55019 and 66019 do not serve as a revenue source for the Board, refuting ongoing speculation to the contrary.
