The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) has directed students to suspend all payments on the university portal following the appearance of financial charges that were not approved by the student leadership.

In an official notice dated December 20, 2025, and addressed to the entire student body, the SUG stated that the charges currently reflecting on the portal were neither discussed nor sanctioned by the duly constituted Students’ Union leadership.

The union explained that its attention was drawn to the recent reopening of the university portal, which displayed multiple financial obligations, triggering concern among students. It stressed that, in keeping with its constitutional responsibility to protect students’ welfare and interests, no student should be compelled to pay charges that have not followed due consultation and approval.

Consequently, the SUG advised all students to refrain from making any payment on the portal until a final agreement is reached between the university management and the Students’ Union. It warned that enforcing unapproved charges amounts to a breach of due process and could place unnecessary financial strain on students.

The union also formally appealed to the university management to shut down the portal until students resume academic activities, noting that the institution is currently on break. According to the SUG, leaving the portal open without the consent of student leadership could heighten tension within the university community.

Reassuring students, the SUG stated that it is actively engaging the university management through peaceful, constructive, and transparent dialogue to reach a fair resolution that balances students’ welfare with the administrative responsibilities of the institution.

Students were urged to remain calm, law-abiding, and patient as discussions continue, with the assurance that all official updates will be communicated through recognized SUG channels.
