The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) has categorically denied allegations circulating on social media that some of its students were apprehended for collaborating with the notorious Boko Haram insurgents. In a strongly worded press release issued by the Office of the Registrar on Tuesday, the institution vehemently described these claims as 'totally baseless, false, and mischievous', reiterating that no student has been found to have any ties with Boko Haram or similar extremist groups.

The statement, signed by the Registrar, Ahmad A. Lawan, underscored the university's unwavering commitment to zero tolerance for extremism, violence, or any activity that poses a threat to national security. According to the release, 'The University Management has never condoned any form of extremism or violence. Instead, the University of Maiduguri has been a vanguard in countering violent extremism, promoting peace, and supporting national security efforts, particularly in the North East region.'

The university emphasized that its community is comprised of disciplined and law-abiding staff and students from diverse backgrounds, primarily focused on academic and character development. It highlighted that UNIMAID students have consistently exhibited good conduct and a strong commitment to their studies, aligning with the institution's core values of learning, discipline, and moral responsibility.

The university urged parents, guardians, members of the public, and social media users to disregard the viral video and refrain from spreading unverified information. It warned that such false narratives could incite unnecessary panic and tarnish the institution's reputation.
