In a move aimed at transforming the state's foundational education sector, Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has appointed Dr. Justina Chinyere Anyadiegwu as the Chairman of the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board.

The appointment was confirmed in a press statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Christian Aburime, on April 22, 2026. With this appointment, a veteran academic will now be at the helm of the state's basic education management.

Dr. Anyadiegwu is transitioning to this role from her current position as the Provost of the Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe. She has over three decades of experience teaching across all levels of the Nigerian education system—primary, secondary, and tertiary. Her academic credentials include a B.Ed. in Language Arts/English from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, an M.A. in English Language from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, and a Ph.D. in English Language and Literature from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

As an Applied Linguist, Dr. Anyadiegwu specializes in active learning strategies and inclusive language education, making her an expert in modern pedagogical techniques. Beyond the classroom, she has played a crucial role in teacher development. Between 2012 and 2014, she served as a consultant trainer for the British Council, specializing in Content and Language Integrated Learning and the Teaching Knowledge Test. She is also recognized as a Master Trainer for the British Council’s Strengthening Teachers’ English Proficiency program.

Her previous contributions to the Universal Basic Education Commission in Anambra State include facilitating Oral English training, phonics, and phonemic awareness. These initiatives helped equip teachers with the necessary skills for improving word recognition and reading fluency among students. The Soludo administration expects Dr. Anyadiegwu to leverage her vast administrative and linguistic background to drive the transformation of the universal basic education system, ensuring a higher standard of literacy and instructional quality for Anambra’s youth.
