The University of Uyo's Governing Council has announced the appointment of Professor Christopher Nyong Ekong as the 9th Substantive Vice-Chancellor. This decision follows a thorough and transparent selection process.
After an extensive evaluation of applications, credentials, and interactions with shortlisted candidates, the Council approved Professor Ekong's appointment, effective June 16, 2026. The selection process adhered to established guidelines and best practices, ensuring fairness, merit, and integrity throughout.
Professor Ekong, a distinguished Economics scholar, demonstrated exceptional academic excellence, administrative competence, and visionary leadership during the selection process. Prior to this appointment, he served as Chairman, Committee of Deans, where he made significant contributions to the university's growth and development.
The Governing Council is confident that under Professor Ekong's leadership, the university will continue to excel in teaching, research, and community service. The appointment takes effect from June 16, 2026, and the university community and the general public have been informed.
