The Management of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, has reaffirmed the ban on commercial motorcycles, known as Okada, within the campus. This decision aligns with global best practices in campus security and safety management, and is a response to the recent increase in theft of Polytechnic property.
The ban is also a proactive security measure to safeguard lives and property, addressing growing security concerns including reports of kidnapping and other criminal activities associated with motorcycle use. The Management had earlier prohibited the entry of motorcycles, as well as tinted and unmarked vehicles, into the Polytechnic, leading to intensified stop-and-search operations at entry and exit points.
All staff, students, visitors, and the public are enjoined to cooperate with the Security Unit to ensure effective compliance with this directive. As alternative transportation, tricycles and intra-campus cab services have been approved to convey passengers within the institution. The Management remains committed to ensuring the safety, welfare, and well-being of staff and students as part of its repositioning and rebranding agenda for the Polytechnic.
