The Federal University Lokoja has achieved a significant milestone with the National Universities Commission's approval of 14 new undergraduate academic programmes. The approval, conveyed in a letter dated June 16, 2026, and signed by the Director of Academic Planning, Abubakar M. Girei, on behalf of the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, follows a resource verification exercise conducted by a panel of experts. The Commission has considered and approved the establishment of the programmes to run in full-time mode at the University's main campus, effective from the 2026/2027 academic session. The newly approved programmes include B.Sc. Social Work, B.Sc. Criminology and Security Studies, B.Sc. Cyber Security, B.Sc. Software Engineering, B.Sc. Artificial Intelligence, B.Sc. Data Science, B.Sc. Psychology, B.Sc. Procurement Management, B.Sc. Entrepreneurship Studies, B.Sc. Actuarial Science, B.Sc. Film and Multimedia Studies, B.Sc. Broadcasting Journalism, B.Sc. Fisheries and Aquaculture, and B.Sc. Agricultural Economics. Prospective candidates can apply for the newly approved programmes in the ongoing 2026/2027 admission exercise once they are uploaded on the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board Central Admissions Processing System. Interested applicants will also have the opportunity to effect a change of programme through the appropriate admission processes and apply for consideration into the programmes. The Vice Chancellor of Federal University Lokoja, Professor Gbenga Solomon Ibileye, described the approval as a significant affirmation of the University's steady progress in academic expansion, innovation, and institutional growth. Professor Ibileye noted that the newly approved programmes align with the University's strategic vision of producing graduates equipped with the knowledge, skills, and competencies required to address contemporary challenges and contribute meaningfully to national development. He emphasized that the approval strengthens the University's capacity to deliver training in emerging and technology-driven fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Cyber Security, and Software Engineering, which are increasingly shaping the future of work and global competitiveness.
