FUTES-IYIN: Full Ban On Indecent Dressing Enforced (2024)

Sep, 17Views: 38

The Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences, Iyin‑Ekiti (FUTES‑IYIN) has reiterated its resolve to uphold strict standards of discipline, modest attire and moral behaviour among its student body, warning that any form of indecent dressing will be strictly prohibited on campus.

Vice‑Chancellor Professor Gbenga Aribisala delivered this message during a courtesy visit by the League of Imams and Alfas in Ekiti State. The delegation was headed by the Chief Imam of Ado‑Ekiti and the President‑General of the League of Imams and Alfas covering the Southwest, Edo and Delta states, Sheikh Bello Kewulere.

Emphasising the university’s stance on student appearance and conduct, the Vice‑Chancellor affirmed that “appropriate dressing and sound moral conduct will be upheld.”

He further urged students to adhere fully to the institution’s regulations, making clear that attire deemed indecent would not be accommodated within the campus environment.

Professor Aribisala noted that the university’s ongoing transition to a fully residential model is intended to create a more robust setting for instilling discipline, ethical values and responsible behaviour among learners.

The Vice‑Chancellor also disclosed that, starting from the next academic session, the university plans to permit religious activities on its grounds, provided they conform to existing institutional guidelines.

He expressed gratitude to the visiting delegation for their prayers and the courtesy visit, attributing the university’s progress to divine guidance.

Earlier in his address, Sheikh Kewulere praised the university administration for its efforts to foster good character, discipline, inclusivity and stability among the student population.

The cleric explained that the purpose of the visit was to strengthen collaborative ties with the university and to identify areas of mutual support, especially in promoting upright character and responsible conduct among students.

While urging the institution to maintain its high standards on dress code and character development, Sheikh Kewulere also called for the establishment of a dedicated communication channel between the university and the Muslim community to enable regular and constructive engagement.
