Chine-me Rueben Esor, the overall best graduating student of the University of Jos, has opened up about the key to her remarkable academic success during the institution’s 34th and 35th Combined Convocation and Golden Jubilee celebration held in Jos on Saturday.

In an interview with PUNCH Online on Sunday, Esor, who graduated with a First Class degree in Computer Science and an impressive cumulative grade point average of 4.82, expressed heartfelt gratitude to her family, friends, and lecturers for their unwavering support throughout her academic journey.

“I’m really, really excited. As an introvert, I find it hard to fully express what I feel physically, but deep down, I am truly overwhelmed,” Esor said.

The 30-year-old, hailing from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and the only daughter of her parents, credited her success to God and the motivating words of her mother.

“My mother would always remind me, ‘You know where you’re coming from. I did not come from a wealthy background. I moved from Port Harcourt to Plateau just to study, and I am not expecting you to return home empty,’” she recalled.

Esor stressed that discipline, consistency, and relentless hard work were central to her achievements.

“I read almost every day. Some of my colleagues thought I had no life outside my studies, but I do. I shop, I relax, I live. The point is, hard work has to be consistent to yield results,” she said.

Her exceptional performance earned her multiple accolades, including the Chancellor’s Prize, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council’s Prize, and the Vice-Chancellor’s Prize.

Looking ahead, Esor revealed her ambitions to advance her education further, with a special focus on robotics, aiming to apply her expertise to address Nigeria’s pressing security challenges.

“After UNIJOS, I plan to pursue further studies in robotics. My goal is to use the knowledge gained to help Nigeria tackle its security issues, which are currently quite significant,” she said.
