Rivers State University, Port Harcourt, has announced that the Students' Union Government has secured concessions from the University Management regarding the enforcement of the 'No ID Card, No Exam' and 'No Fees' policies.
In a press statement released on 8th March 2026, the SUG President, Sen. Comr. Martins Marvelous Chukwumeka, detailed the temporary relief measures granted by the Vice-Chancellor following urgent engagement. These concessions are specifically targeted at students facing challenges with the NELFUND loan scheme and those awaiting their physical identification cards.
For NELFUND beneficiaries whose loans have been disbursed but have not yet reflected on the university's portal, the SUG advises such students to proceed immediately to the Bursary Unit with their NELFUND disbursement slip for authentication. This verification will allow them to sit for their exams and manually sign the attendance register while the official clearance of fees is pending.
Addressing the issue of ID cards, the President announced that students who have registered and applied but are yet to receive their physical cards will not be turned away. As a temporary measure, students are permitted to use an Evidence of Application, which is a screenshot or printout of the request slip from their portal, for both school entry and examination entry.
While welcoming these 'fatherly concessions,' Senator Chukwumeka reminded the student body that these are temporary relief measures. He urged all students to use this window to fulfill their long-standing obligations to the university. 'Please remain calm, stay focused on your studies, and ensure you have your documents ready before your first paper,' the statement concluded.
