In a move to ease transportation difficulties and boost punctuality, the Deanery of Student Affairs at Bayero University, Kano (BUK), has announced the expansion of its official bus services. This development follows approval from the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Haruna Musa, and is designed to alleviate the commute for both students and staff.
The extension introduces two critical new routes to the university's transport network. The first, the College of Health Sciences (CHS/AKTH/Shoprite) Route, connects the Old Site, New Site, and the College of Health Sciences complex, which is situated near Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) and Shoprite. The second route, Filin Dantata (Katsina Road), provides a direct link between the New Site and the Aliko Oil Filling Station, located opposite Filin Dantata/Bukavu Barracks.
These services will operate on a fixed schedule with subsidized fares to make them more accessible. For the CHS/AKTH/Shoprite Route, the fares are as follows: Old Site to CHS/AKTH/Shoprite costs ₦250, departing at 8:00 AM; CHS to Old Site also costs ₦250, departing at 9:00 AM; CHS to New Site costs ₦400, departing at 9:00 AM; New Site to CHS costs ₦400, with a departure time of 4:00 PM; and there's an additional CHS to Old Site trip for ₦250, though the time is not specified.
For the Filin Dantata Route, the fares are: Old Site to Aliko Oil (Filin Dantata) for ₦150, departing at 8:00 AM; Aliko Oil to Old Site for ₦150, departing at 9:00 AM; Aliko Oil to New Site for ₦300, departing at 9:00 AM; New Site to Aliko Oil for ₦300, with a departure time of 4:00 PM; and an additional Aliko Oil to Old Site trip for ₦150, with the time not specified.
According to a notice signed by the Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Mukhtar Ridwanu Bunza, these new schedules are set to commence on Monday, 12th January 2026. The university community has been urged to adhere to the published timings to ensure the smooth operation of the services and avoid any inconvenience. This initiative is part of the university administration's ongoing efforts to support student welfare and accessibility across its campuses.
