Applications are now being accepted from suitably qualified individuals who wish to enroll in the programmes offered by the Centre for Literary Studies, Creative Writing and International Publishing at the University of Abuja for the academic session 2026/2027.

The Centre aims to nurture scholars, creative writers, editors, publishers, literary critics and cultural entrepreneurs, providing them with the theoretical knowledge and practical competencies needed to thrive in academia, the publishing sector, media houses and the broader creative economy.

Prospective students may come from backgrounds such as English, Linguistics, Theatre Arts, Communications and Media, History, Social Sciences, Education, Library and Information Science, as well as other related fields of study.

ADMISSION ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

• Certificate Programme in Publishing Studies: Applicants must have at least five O’Level credit passes, including English Language, obtained within a maximum of two examination sittings. Preference will be given to candidates who possess relevant professional, creative or hands‑on experience in publishing, writing, editing, media, communications or comparable areas.
• Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Literary Studies and Creative Writing: Candidates should hold a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of a Third Class/Pass classification, or an HND with at least a Lower Credit, from a recognised institution. Holders of professional certificates issued by accredited bodies may also be considered, subject to university regulations. In addition, applicants must be able to demonstrate relevant professional or practical experience in the discipline they intend to study.
• Master’s Degree in Literary Studies and Creative Writing / Masters in Publishing Studies: Applicants are required to possess a Bachelor’s degree with at least a second‑class lower division classification in a relevant subject from an accredited university, together with a valid NYSC discharge or exemption certificate where applicable. Candidates should also have demonstrable professional experience and concrete practical skills related to their chosen area of specialization.
• Doctoral Degree in Literary Studies and Creative Writing: Eligibility demands a Master’s degree in a pertinent discipline such as English, Literary Studies, Theatre Arts, Communication and Media Studies, Mass Communication, History, Library and Information Science, Linguistics, Education, Social Sciences or any allied field. Prospective doctoral candidates must also bring to bear relevant professional experience and a proven record of skilled or practical work in the intended research or specialization area.
• Professional Experience: Candidates applying for the professional postgraduate routes are expected to be active practitioners or individuals with clear evidence of professional, technical, creative or practical experience in the relevant field of interest. Acceptable experience may encompass, but is not limited to, literary practice, creative writing, publishing, editing, journalism, filmmaking, scriptwriting, digital publishing, media and communication, cultural production and other creative‑industry engagements.
• General Requirements: All applicants must have a minimum of five O’Level credit passes, inclusive of English Language, achieved within no more than two sittings. Where relevant, a NYSC discharge or exemption certificate must be presented.

These programmes provide avenues for specialization in areas such as African Literature, Creative Writing (including Fiction, Poetry, Drama and Creative Non‑Fiction), Publishing and Editing, Scriptwriting, Documentary Production, Creative Writing for Film Studies, Copyright and Intellectual Property, Media and Communications, Narrative Journalism, Publishing Entrepreneurship, as well as emerging fields like Artificial Intelligence and Digital Publishing.
