The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced a major innovation for the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External, introducing a dual examination format that allows candidates to choose between the Computer-Based Test (CBT) and the traditional Pen and Paper mode.

According to the Council, the move aims to enhance accessibility, flexibility, and convenience for candidates across Nigeria. NECO also disclosed that more neighbourhood examination centres have been established nationwide to accommodate the growing number of candidates and ensure smoother conduct of the exams.

Mock Exam for Candidates

To help candidates get familiar with the CBT system, NECO has scheduled a mock examination ahead of the main exam. The Council encourages all candidates to participate in the mock to gain hands-on experience with the new digital testing platform.

Steps to Register for the NECO Mock Exam

Step 2: Complete the Registration Form
Fill in the required details accurately and submit your registration form.

Step 3: Check Your Email for Further Instructions
After registration, candidates should check their email for confirmation details, including their registration number and exam guidelines.

Step 4: Log in to the Exam Portal
Go to [practice-exam.neco.gov.ng] and log in using your registration number.

Step 5: Begin the Mock Exam
Follow the on-screen instructions to take the mock examination and get acquainted with NECO’s CBT interface.

NECO urged candidates to take the mock exercise seriously, noting that the dual-mode system is designed to combine innovation with inclusivity, ensuring that every candidate—regardless of digital skill level—can take the exam comfortably while upholding the integrity and standard of the SSCE.
