Imo State University, Owerri (IMSU) has issued a clarification regarding a doctored press release that has been circulating.

The Public Relations Unit of IMSU stated that the authentic press release issued on 10 August 2026, is titled “NOTICE TO STUDENTS: 2025/2026 SECOND SEMESTER EXAMINATIONS HAVE COMMENCED”. However, a fraudulent version with the title “NOTICE TO STUDENTS: 2025/2026 INDEFINITE INDUSTRIAL STRIKE ACTION” has been altered and is being circulated.

This fake notice claims that all academic activities have been suspended for five months, which is entirely false. The University has reiterated its official position as stated in the genuine press release issued on the same day.

Members of the public are advised to:

• Ignore the fake press release and any instructions contained in it.
• Report any further circulation of the fraudulent notice to the Public Relations Unit immediately.

The University is currently investigating the source of the doctored document and will take appropriate action. It has been made clear that anyone who acts on the false information does so at their own risk.

This notification serves to inform all students of Imo State University (IMSU) that the 2025/2026 Second Semester Examinations have officially commenced.

It has come to the attention of the Public Relations Unit that false rumors claiming the postponement of the examinations are being circulated. Students are advised to ignore these rumors. No official postponement has been issued by the University.

Any student who absents himself or herself from examinations on the basis of such false information does so at his or her own risk and will be held responsible for the consequences, in line with University regulations.
