The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that a total of 2,030,627 candidates have successfully registered for this year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), this marks the highest number of applications JAMB has ever received in the history of conducting the UTME.
This information was detailed in JAMB’s weekly bulletin, released in Abuja on Monday.
The board confirmed that the registration process for the 2025 UTME officially closed on March 8.
In the previous year, over 1.9 million candidates applied to sit for the UTME.
JAMB clarified that this figure does not include candidates who registered to take the examination at international testing centers.
Furthermore, 200,115 candidates opted to participate in the optional Mock UTME, which is scheduled to take place on April 5, 2025.
“This year, the board introduced several innovative strategies to prevent malpractice and uphold the credibility of the examination process.
“These initiatives have already resulted in multiple arrests of candidates attempting to submit falsified A-level results for admission, demonstrating the effectiveness of the new fraud detection system.
“We strongly advise all candidates to strictly follow examination guidelines and avoid engaging in any form of misconduct during the test,” the board stated.
