Abuja, November 3, 2025 — The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has cautioned candidates and tertiary institutions against unauthorized changes of programme carried out outside its official platform, the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).
In a statement issued on Monday by the Board’s Head of Media, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB revealed that some institutions have been using their internal portals to pressure or deceive highly ranked candidates into switching from their preferred programmes to less-competitive ones.
According to the Board, this unethical tactic is aimed at manipulating the merit-based ranking process to favour certain individuals, a move that directly undermines transparency and fairness in the national admission system.
“Any change of programme or admission activity carried out outside JAMB CAPS is unauthorized, unethical, and detrimental to candidates,” the statement read.
JAMB emphasized that CAPS remains the sole and legitimate platform for all admission processes in Nigeria, designed to promote accountability and equal opportunity. The Board further warned that any candidate who allows an institution to influence their decision through unofficial channels would be deemed to have acted voluntarily — and JAMB will not be held responsible for the outcome.
Preliminary findings by the Board identified a university in the South-West and another in Abuja as being involved in such manipulative practices. Appropriate regulatory actions have reportedly been initiated to address the matter and safeguard candidates’ interests.
JAMB therefore urged all prospective students to remain vigilant, ignore any institutional pressure to alter their programme choices through internal portals, and carry out all admission-related activities exclusively through the official JAMB CAPS platform.
“The Board remains steadfast in ensuring that all qualified candidates are treated with fairness, equity, and transparency in the 2025 admission exercise and beyond,” Dr. Benjamin reaffirmed.
