In a bid to enhance safety, improve coordination, and ensure proper security management during student movements, the Students' Union of the University of Uyo (UNIUYO) has introduced new procedures for the use of school buses for student-related activities through the Office of the Director of Transport.
The new directive outlines that all uses of school buses, including mini buses and 18-seater buses, must now receive prior approval from the Office of the Director of Transport. This move is aimed at promoting orderliness, accountability, and the overall safety of students, while strengthening collaboration with security stakeholders on campus.
To use school transportation, individuals, groups, associations, or faculties must notify the Office of the Director of Transport ahead of time, allowing for adequate documentation, scheduling, and security clearance in line with established transport and security protocols. Requests can be made directly to the transport office via WhatsApp or phone calls, or through faculty-level officials for those without a designated Director of Transport.
For faculties without a designated transport director, requests should be routed through the Faculty or Departmental President, Director of Protocol, or the Special Adviser to the President on Protocol, who will then relay these requests to the Students' Union transport office for necessary action.
The Students' Union has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, with student safety remaining a top priority. By introducing these new guidelines, the Union seeks to create a safer and more organized campus environment, and students and members of the university community are urged to cooperate with these new guidelines to achieve this goal.
