The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has scheduled the Policy Meeting on Admissions into tertiary institutions in Nigeria for Friday, July 19, 2024. This meeting, set to establish minimum cut-off marks for the 2024/2025 admissions cycle, will be chaired by the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman.
Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB's spokesperson, announced this in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja. The policy meeting plays a crucial role in shaping the annual admission exercise, formulating admission guidelines, presenting application statistics, evaluating candidates' performance, and setting the minimum admissions standards for all tertiary institutions in Nigeria for the year.
JAMB has listed key stakeholders expected at the meeting, including heads of regulatory agencies such as the National Universities Commission (NUC), National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), and National Council for Colleges of Education (NCCE), as well as heads of tertiary institutions and representatives from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), among others.
Benjamin noted, "During the exercise, the Registrar will present reports on the recently concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and ongoing Direct Entry (DE) applications while also analyzing key performance indicators that could influence government policy directions in the area of admissions. Additionally, the meeting will inform stakeholders about significant issues that emerged during the previous year's admission process and assess the performance of candidates in the current year's UTME to determine the minimum admissible score for the year."
He also recalled that in the previous year, stakeholders had agreed on the minimum admission requirements for universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. Furthermore, this year's meeting will outline the admission requirements, initiate the admission process for the current year, address unresolved issues from the previous academic year, and review stakeholders' compliance with existing advisories, suggesting further amendments where necessary.
