The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has disclosed that over one million students have been admitted illegally by some tertiary institutions in the country.
JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, made this announcement on Thursday in Abuja during the ongoing policy meeting for 2023/2024 admissions.
The policy meeting, attended by heads of tertiary institutions and other stakeholders, sets the guidelines for admissions into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
According to Prof. Oloyede, JAMB has managed to regularize 600 of the illegally admitted students.
He further noted that many of these students lack the basic qualifications for the courses they enrolled in.
"Over one million students were admitted illegally. We regularized about 600 of them because many do not meet the basic qualifications," Oloyede stated.
