FUTMINNA Releases Official Gown Collection And Return Guidelines For 34th Convocation Ceremony

Jan, 24Views: 4

The Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMINNA) has formally issued detailed instructions on the collection, use, and return of academic gowns for its upcoming 34th Convocation Ceremony. The directive applies to both undergraduate and postgraduate graduands and includes clear timelines, collection points, and financial penalties for default.

Convocation Ceremony Details

The University has scheduled its 34th Convocation Ceremony as follows:
    •    Date: Sunday, 1st February, 2026
    •    Category: Undergraduate and Postgraduate
    •    Venue: Suleimanu Kumo Convocation Square, Main Campus, Gidan Kwano

All graduands are expected to take note of the venue and date, as no alternative arrangements were announced.

Academic Gown Collection Schedule

Graduands are required to obtain their academic gowns from their respective School Secretaries.
    •    Collection Commences: Monday, 26th January, 2026
    •    Collection Point: Office of the relevant School Secretary

The University advised graduands to collect their gowns early, warning that last-minute collection may result in long queues and unnecessary delays.

Academic Gown Return Procedure

FUTMINNA directed that all gowns must be returned through the same school channel used for certificate collection.
    •    Return Begins: Sunday, 1st February, 2026
    •    Return Point: At the point of certificate collection through the graduand’s school

In effect, gown return is strictly tied to certificate collection. No separate return location or alternative procedure was provided.

Penalties And Replacement Costs

The University outlined two financial implications that graduands must take seriously:

Late Return Penalty
Any graduand who fails to return the gown at the point of certificate collection will incur a daily penalty of:
    •    ₦2,000.00 per day

Loss Of Academic Gown
In the event that a gown is lost, the affected graduand will be required to replace it at the full cost of:
    •    ₦38,000.00

Quick Guide For Graduands
    •    Collect your academic gown from your School Secretary starting 26th January, 2026
    •    Attend the Convocation Ceremony on Sunday, 1st February, 2026, at Gidan Kwano
    •    Return your gown at the point of certificate collection to avoid the ₦2,000 daily penalty
    •    Handle the gown with care; replacement cost is ₦38,000

Graduands are strongly advised to comply strictly with these instructions to avoid financial penalties and administrative inconvenience during the convocation process.
