The University of Ibadan Students' Union has announced the suspension of all academic activities due to the deteriorating conditions on campus caused by the ongoing SSANU and NASU industrial action.
According to the Union, the situation within the university has become increasingly unbearable, with students facing a total blackout, lack of water supply, and the closure of the University Health Centre.
The Union stated that the living conditions in the halls of residence and across campus have become unbearable, making the environment no longer conducive for human habitation, let alone academic excellence.
In response to these challenges, the Union declared that all academic activities, including classes and tests, are suspended until further notice. The Union emphasized that it is unrealistic to expect students to continue academic work under such harsh conditions, urging collective action to address the crisis.
An emergency congress has been scheduled to deliberate on the way forward regarding the strike and student welfare. The congress details are as follows: Venue: SUB Foyer Time: 5:00 PM (Today) Agenda: Deliberation on the way forward regarding the strike and student welfare
Students have been encouraged to attend the congress, remain peaceful, and participate actively in discussions that will determine the next steps in advocating for improved campus conditions.
