The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) in Bauchi, through its Directorate of ICT (DICT), has announced that every Computer‑Based Test (CBT) examination will now employ photograph‑based identity verification.

The circular, dated 21 September 2026, states that this new verification layer is meant to reinforce the credibility and security of the university’s examination process.

Under the revised procedure, a student’s identity will be matched against the passport‑type photograph submitted when the examination password is issued, and the match will be re‑checked continuously throughout the test.

The university directed students to:

• Upload a clear, current passport photograph to the registration portal atbu.safrecords.com before the day of the exam.
• Ensure the photograph is valid, because candidates without a valid image will not be issued an examination password.
• Be aware that the uploaded photograph will appear alongside the candidate’s examination account for invigilators to verify identity during the test.

Invigilators are required to compare each examinee with the displayed photograph at check‑in and at regular intervals during the examination.

If an invigilator finds that a student’s face does not correspond to the uploaded picture, the examination must be halted immediately and the incident reported to the venue head or DICT. The student will be barred from continuing until the matter is resolved.

Venue heads are instructed to click “Sync Now” at the start of each day and allow a few minutes for the photographs to download to their systems.

Administrators are also expected to prepare the photographs for Moodle and upload them prior to the examination day.
