The management of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) has approved an extension of the ongoing student verification and registration exercise.
According to the new directive, both newly admitted and returning students now have until Friday, 16 January 2026 to complete their verification and registration.
The extension followed a report submitted by the Taskforce on Registration of Students, which revealed a worrying level of compliance. As of 19 December 2025, only about 50 percent of fresh students had completed their registration. The situation was even more concerning for returning students, with less than 10 percent having done so. The low turnout prompted the university to step in.
In a memo issued by the Registrar, Ambrose G. Ugwu, the university explained that the additional time was granted to allow students properly organise their documents and complete the process without undue pressure. However, the Registrar warned that students who fail to meet the new deadline may face sanctions as determined by the university management. While specific penalties were not outlined, the warning leaves little room for excuses.
The Registrar also directed Deans, Heads of Departments, Faculty Officers, ICT representatives, and all admission and registration staff to ensure full compliance with the directive across their respective units.
While extending goodwill and Merry Christmas wishes to students, the university reminded them to treat registration as a priority. Celebrations are fine—but paperwork comes first.
