The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that prospective candidates for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) can now generate and save their profile codes in preparation for the commencement of registration. This initiative aims to streamline the registration process and prevent potential bottlenecks.
National Identification Number (NIN) Requirement
Candidates are reminded that possession of a valid National Identification Number (NIN) is mandatory for UTME and Direct Entry (DE) registration. They are advised to verify that all personal information linked to their NIN—including name, date of birth, and other relevant details—is accurate. Any discrepancies must be corrected with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) before registration begins.
Profile Code Generation
To generate a profile code, candidates must send an SMS in the following format from their personal GSM number:
NIN
Example: NIN 12345678901
The message should be sent to either 55019 or 66019. Upon successful submission, candidates will receive a ten-character profile code on the same number. Candidates are cautioned that once a profile code is generated, it cannot be altered, and their biodata will automatically be retrieved from the NIMC database.
Common Issues and Resolutions
Biometric Verification and Henna Advisory
JAMB strongly warns candidates against applying henna, also referred to as “Laali” or “Lale,” on their fingers. Henna obstructs biometric verification, and attempts to remove it using chemicals can damage fingerprint whorls, making authentication difficult or impossible. Candidates must safeguard all ten fingers during registration and on the day of the examination, as successful biometric verification is mandatory for entry into the examination hall. Failure to pass biometric verification will result in denial of access to the exam.
All personal information used for UTME registration is sourced directly from the NIMC database. Candidates are urged to follow all instructions carefully to ensure a smooth registration process.
