The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Committee (JCC), Edo Axis, has expressed gratitude for the peaceful resolution that led to the release of 52 arrested individuals, with 38 confirmed to be genuine students.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the student body commended the collective efforts that ensured a fair and timely resolution to the situation. The association specifically thanked His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, Executive Governor of Edo State, for his openness to dialogue and decisive intervention.
According to the statement, the governor’s actions reflected a commitment to justice, youth inclusion, and the protection of students’ rights in the state. Special appreciation was also extended to the National President of NANS, Comrade Olushola Oladoja; Edo State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Paddy Iyamu; the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Students’ Welfare and Development, Comrade Jimah Mubarak; the incumbent Students’ Union Government President; the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) President, Comrade Eshiofune Paul Oghayan; the NAESS family; and other student bodies and stakeholders.
NANS JCC Edo Axis noted that the calm engagement and insistence on dialogue by all parties helped prevent further escalation. The resolution, the statement read, reaffirms the association’s commitment to responsible representation, peaceful advocacy, and constructive engagement in the interest of Nigerian students. The student body also thanked everyone who stood in solidarity with the affected students.
